What the heck is going on in Middle East countries lately?

CNN right now...13 year old boy tortured in Syria, penis removed, women protestors sexually assaulted in Egypt and forced to submit to virginity checks, Yemen in chaos with the military killing citizens in the streets..I could go on and on...What the hell is wrong with this part of the world lately..why is this exploding like this?
