How do you skip the tutorial on how to use the baton in the Wind Waker?

Whenever I play the Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker, I can never get past the part where the dragon boat teaches you how to use the baton. I'm terrible at it and I can never get past it. Is there any way you can skip that part? Please help me!!! I play it on the wii but I use a gamecube controller.
